Checklist for Writing

Once you have finished writing, please give yourself a minute or so proofreading.

1. Check for missing any part of a sentence: S V O
2. Check Subject - Verb agreement: check the 3rd person singular "s" agreement in the present tense
3. Check that your verbs are correct (correct active or passive voice)
4. Check that your verb forms are correct
5. Check your countable and uncountable nouns
6. Check that your pronouns refer to previously mentioned nouns
7. Check that your prepositions are correct
8. Check that your parts of speech are correct
9. Check that your conditional forms are correct
10. Check for missing or incorrect articles
11. Check that your sentences are tentative
12. Check that you use correct modal verbs
13. Check that your sentences are various, e.g with different structures such as simple, compound, complex, emphatic etc.
14. Check your spelling
15. Check word-count
16. Check if your punctuations are correct
17. Check your essay structure, paragraph structure
18. Check that your ideas are paraphrased properly
19. Check to avoid any repetition
20. Check that your ideas are well-organized, easy to understand, logical
